Dog parks provide a safe and social environment for dogs to play and exercise. Sydney is home to several fantastic parks where pets can roam freely.

  • Bicentennial Park: Located in Sydney Olympic Park, Bicentennial Park boasts 304 hectares of grasslands, woodlands and wetlands for conservation. The park contains a designated off leash area behind P5 Car Park on Hill Road, otherwise dogs should remain on a lead. It's a popular spot for dog owners who enjoy leisurely walks or picnics with their pets.

  • Sydney Park: Features a large off-leash area and a fun agility course for dogs. The park's diverse terrain offers ample opportunities for exercise and exploration.

  • Fagan Park: Located in the bushy suburbs of Galston, Fagan Park has a new dedicated off leash dog park opened in January 2025 fitted with fresh drinking area and shaded seating with a beautiful backdrop of a dam and bushland. The rest of Fagan Park can be explored with your dog on leash, with 11 themed gardens including Japanese, Dutch, Chinese and Mediterranean gardens.

Beaches

Sydney's coastline offers several dog-friendly beaches where pets can enjoy the sand and surf alongside their owners.

  • Greenhills Beach: One of Sydney's dog-friendly beaches in south Sydney, offering a 3km stretch of sand for dogs to run and play. Dogs are allowed before 10am and after 4pm during daylight saving hours (3pm during non-day light hours).

  • Flora and Richie Roberts Reserve: A hidden gem in Northern Beaches for dogs who love the sand and water, providing a quieter alternative to more crowded beaches.

  • Manly Lagoon: Located in the North Shore region, Manly Lagoon is a calm body of water where your dog can explore off leash 24 hours a day. The lagoon does eventually join up with the north end of Manly Beach.

  • Narrabean Lagoon: Probably the most accessible walks you will find where pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users are able to peruse this multi-use trail. The Narrabean Lagoon walk spans 8.4km without any steps which may take 2-3 hours total. Dogs are allowed on this walk as long as they remain leashed.

Throughout the year, Sydney hosts various dog-friendly events that celebrate the bond between pets and their owners.

  • Doggie Rescue Walks: Participate in group walks that support local dog rescues, the most popular being the Million Paws Walk that supports RSPCA. Unfortunately May 25, 2025 will be the last year RPSCA will hold their fund raising walk however other rescues such as PetRescue holds their 'Best Friends Walk' in September 2025. These events offer a chance to meet other pet lovers and contribute to a good cause.

  • Dog Lovers Festival Sydney: Run annually, the Dog Lovers Festival is held at Sydney Olympic Park this year on August 23-24th, 2025. This expo often features door prizes, workshops, demonstrations, and fun activities such as pat-a-pooch and unique canine centric boutiques.

  • Charity Runs and Festivals: Join in on charity runs and festivals that support dogs, combining fitness, fun, and philanthropy. Examples include the Sydney City2Surf, Beach2Beach and Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, all of these runs support guide Dogs Australia.
